General Discussion / Leadership Project
« on: September 07, 2018, 09:58:54 am »
I am super excited about an upcoming event, where I can implement my plans for the Leadership Project we have been assigned.  The Auburn office will be taking part with an event sponsored by Auburn Housing Authority, where vendors are invited to share information regarding available services for their residents.  Our staff will be in attendance to educate Auburn Housing residents about CNA services, as well as giving me the perfect opportunity to educate all ages with Make Your Plate- Nutritional Education information. Sarah Russell, Region D Dietician, shared with me some large versions of the Make Your Plate handouts that visually teach plate portions, beneficial types of food choices, exercise choices, as well as limiting screen time to encourage better health.   We have been told that 300 people were in attendance last year, so we are planning for a great outcome.

I agree with you Dechelle that is very important to be aware of any bias when interacting with others.  I have had interactions at work that I realized I was biased and had to catch myself so I would not make decisions that would be unfair in that instance.

As I read your post, vivid memories of live examples came to my mind, where I have allowed a quick comment or statement to be shared, leading to a loss in trust of my true character and convictions.
I have tried very hard to learn from those events, but in some instances, it is very hard to correct even the slightest of mistakes.  Far too many times, people only remember those small moments, instead of the all the other positive comments or actions that have taken place over the long haul.

General Discussion / Re: After the Trust Class...

Hello Drew,
I have been working on an idea for a project, but am not sure if I am on the right track.
I would like to share a short description of the idea and get your input.

Care Network focuses on strong education and support for individual patients, but I feel it would be a great asset for Viva to
outreach to the general population with health topics such as nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention.  It would be very advantageous to
partner with organizations such as Public Education Systems, Boys & Girls Clubs, Recreation Centers, etc.,  taking educational materials that
are widely available from sources such as ADPH and CDC.  Other health education programs could include Diabetes and Hypertension education
to the public, describing our program and offering support to those in need.  Since we do not have to have a Doctor to write a referral, this practice
should be acceptable.  This program would not only effect public education and knowledge, but would also boost the number of patients that we currently
follow with self referrals.

My question stems from the issue that I do not know how I could provide measureable outcomes with it, in the time span that we are allowed in this course.
Perhaps I am not on the correct path with this and need redirection.

I look forward to your response .  I am really enjoying the opportunity to learn more leadership principals and have the chance to implement them in my current role.

Thanks

Sheri Burdell
